Weekend Review: Watch the Skies! (2014)
We curated the first ever large-scale outdoor cinematic event at Jodrell Bank Observatory, home to one of the largest radio telescopes in the world, and the UK centre for research in pulsars and space exploration.
This weekend of interstellar cinema brought audiences to the darkest spaces of the universe as we made contact with the unknown – including evolutionary tales of artificial life, dark stars, paranormal encounters and drama on a planetary scale.
Watch the Skies! captured man-kinds drive to explore and exploit new frontiers, featuring classic science fiction films screened under the night sky, alongside two exclusive world premieres and commissions from Soup Collective and Oneohtrix Point Never.
From the early evening there was a sci-fi centered Science Fair, delivered by the astrophysicists native to Jodrell Bank and specialists from The University of Manchester, followed by a series of stunning audiovisual projections onto the legendary Lovell telescope before our spectacular outdoor cinema took centre stage.
Working with our partners at Jodrell Bank and Live from Jodrell Bank Transmissions we created an unforgettable night for all you cult film fanatics and science fiction lovers.
