  • Air Navigation Order the key document which outlines UK airspace regulation
  • CAA Civil Aviation Authority, the UK’s specialist aviation regulator

  • ESC  Electronic Speed Controller, a circuit commonly used on remotely piloted vehicles
  • FOV a measurement of how much environment is seen through a camera lens
  • FC Flight controller, the drone’s brain
  • FPV First person view, a method used to control a radio-controlled vehicle from the pilot’s view
  • FPVC First person view cameras
  • FPVG First person view goggles
  • FPVA  First person view antennas
  • FPVM First person view monitors
  • Fixed-wing aircraft an aircraft capable of flight using wings that generate lift caused by the vehicle’s forward airspeed
  • GCS Ground Control Station, software used to monitor a Flight Controller Board
  • Gimbal a specialized camera mount which has the ability to tilt, keeping the camera’s position steady
  • GPS Global Positioning System used to track movement or hold position
  • DGPS Differential Global Positioning System an enhancement to Global Positioning System that provides improved location accuracy
  • LiDAR a remote sensing technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser and analyzing the reflected light
  • Multirotor an aircraft with more than two rotors
  • Quadcopter a type of multicopter that has 4 motors, no servos, all motors on same level
  • Rotor the rotary part of a machine or vehicle
  • Rotary-wing aircraft an aircraft in which wings form a rotor mounted on a spinning shaft
  • RC Radio Control, refers to the hobby as a whole
  • UA Unmanned Aircraft
  • UAS Unmanned Aircraft System, generally used to describe the entire operating equipment including aircraft, control station and wireless data link
  • UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
  • VR Video Receiver
  • VTX Video Transmitter, a device that sends video signal to the video receiver
  • Waypoints flight path preplanned into the drone’s remote navigational software
