Abandon Normal Devices (AND) is a charity supporting artists working where art meets technology, science and public intervention. We produce the UK’s only nomadic digital arts festival. Since 2009 we have commissioned over 100 artists and produced globally recognised work that creates space to imagine new worlds and disrupt normative perspectives. We work hard to give access to the arts and to make ambitious, immersive experiences accessible to communities across the North of England.
At the heart of our work is AND Festival, our flagship biennial festival that transforms towns, cities and landscapes across the North of England into platforms for ambitious digital art. Through large-scale commissions, immersive experiences and public events, we bring artists, researchers, communities and partners together to explore the relationship between people, place and technology. At AND Festival 2021, one in three local audience members came from some of the most economically disadvantaged communities in England, and 75% came from areas experiencing higher-than-average levels of deprivation.

AND has carved a niche in the North of England, providing testing grounds for artists willing to take artistic risk through our site-specific festival format, collaborative research projects, or development opportunities with local and global partners.
As a non-profit organisation, we rely on a mixture of individual giving, partnership work and long-term funding. This support enables us to:
