Live Art Therapy Workshop / Oriana Fox (2012)

In 2012 AND collaborated with LADA (Live Art Development Agency) on it’s first DIY workshop with Oriana Fox.

In July of that year a group of six artists traveled to Grizedale Forest in Cumbria to work with Oriana on a two day workshop rethinking how Live Art can be utilised as therapy. Asking participants to examine and develop the therapeutic aspects of their own work, the workshop questioned whether it is worth considering ‘self-help’ as the motivation for art, since it is nearly always seen as narcissistic, apolitical or just plain ‘naff’.

If performance art failed to ‘cure’, participants had the opportunity to seek the advice of a psychotherapist with over twenty-five years of experience – Oriana’s mum Angela Monti Fox LCSW – who provided one-to-one consultations with each participant.

This workshop was developed in partnership with the Live Art Development Agency (as part of the DIY2012 programme) and the Forestry Commission.

Oriana Fox is a multi-disciplinary artist who works primarily in video and performance to explore autobiography, self-help, feminism and desire.
