War Veteran Vehicle \ Krzysztof Wodiczko (2009)

Krzysztof Wodiczko is one of the most prominent Polish artists renowned internationally for his socially engaged work employing large scale slide and video projections.  War Veteran Vehicle continued Krzysztof Wodiczko’s interest in the situation of soldiers who fought during recent armed conflicts and who are returning to civilian life.

For the project in Liverpool, Wodickzo worked with men and women from the North West who have experienced active duty in the armed forces and projected these reflections and stories of combat on iconic sites in the city. The aim of the project was to foster a better understanding of the impact of social reintegration on veterans and their families following their return and to lessen the feelings of isolation held by those struggling with aftermath of combat and to help with the difficult social reintegration.

Born 1943 in Warsaw, Wodiczko is a visual artist working in photography and video art, art theoretician.
