Elsecar Heritage Centre

Elsecar Heritage Centre is a former Victorian industrial estate village of ironworks and collieries, built for the Earls Fitzwilliam of Wentworth Woodhouse. The living history centre is now recognised to be of international significance, and one of the UK’s first model villages and a precursor to places like Saltaire. Once a hub for joiners, carpenters, blacksmiths and repair shops, the site’s characterful courtyards & engineering workshops are now home to independent shops, artists maker studios, cafes, a pub and an antiques centre. Also, close to the heritage centre at Elsecar New Colliery is a Newcomen steam engine – the world’s oldest steam engine still in its original location.

MONOM’s Acoustic Memories and Metahaven’s film work Chaos Theory will be presented in The Ironworks, which is a former Victorian iron rolling mill and remains an impressive industrial space.
