As part of AND Festival 2026, MONOM is hosting an exclusive 4DSOUND Masterclass in Barnsley.
Saturday 26 September
Time: 18:00 – 21:00
Elsecar Heritage Centre
Price: £40
This 2 hour masterclass is a special behind-the-scenes look at crafting holographic sound experiences using MONOM’s 4DSOUND setup. You might be interested in this experience if you’re a musician or sound artist, have a focus on experimental composition, or are interested in spatial sound and creative technologies. Beginners are welcome.
4DSOUND is an omnidirectional spatial sound system designed to approach space as a creative medium. It can be thought of as an instrument in itself, allowing artists to explore sound, space and movement as interconnected elements of a composition.
Led by MONOM’s 4DSOUND engineer Alejandra Ríos, the session includes a demonstration on how field recordings from Barnsley’s environment can be transformed and woven into an immersive 4DSOUND composition. From its industrial heritage and vibrant public spaces to its bold natural landscapes, Barnsley’s unique sonic textures will inform a textural composition that will be manipulated and spatialised in real time.
As part of the evening you’ll have a chance to experience MONOM’s AND Festival commission Acoustic Memories in action inside the immersive spatial audio installation.
Spaces are limited, we encourage you to book early to guarantee your space.
MONOM is an artist-run studio working at the intersection of spatial sound, music, art, and technology. Utilising 4DSOUND technology, they craft spatial sound experiences across the entire spectrum, from ideation to exhibition, artistic direction, touring, curation, technology and system integration. They believe in sound as a powerful medium for change and transformation. With spatial sound at the centre, they aim to create transformative experiences that are accessible and available to everyone.
