Sandbox Online (Gather)

As part of Jazmin Morris’ exhibition and residency at Modal gallery – Sandbox will manifest online via Gather, an interactive 8-bit style virtual platform. In Gather, audiences will join a virtual ‘in conversation’ with Jazmin Morris and Ama Dogbe whilst also being able to explore some elements of the physical show, online. Sandbox on Gather will be open with an invigilator Mon – Fri 12pm-5pm – reflecting the opening times of the physical space inside Modal gallery.

What is Gather?

Gather is an 8-bit style ‘proximity’ video-calling platform accessible through a web browser at https://gather.town/. It allows participants to move through digital spaces freely, walk in and out of conversations easily, and interact with content in the space. Additional instructions on how to access Gather can be found here.  As part of Sandbox, artist Jazmin Morris has recreated Sandbox inside this virtual platform for online visitors to to explore key artefacts, literature, provocations, worlds and interactive games from the exhibition.

About Sandbox
Inspired by play, exchange of knowledge, the theme of worlding*, and using creative computing and games design as mediums for social/political criticism, Jazmin Morris re-imagines Modal gallery as a community resource. Featuring workshops, a games night and an open-access library, Morris looks to disrupt and push the boundaries of knowledge sharing and traditional archiving, situating carefully curated media as a tool for collective resistance and liberation. A response to gaps in access to cultural and educational experiences, Sandbox is a call and part of a long term ambition to envision more radical systems for learning, critical thinking and restorative practices and the potential of code and technologies.
