Introducing our first wave of artists for AND Festival 2026

Thu 18 Jun 2026

Using Barnsley as a site for experimentation, artists Dian Joy and Jazmin Morris, and spatial sound collective MONOM will each embark on a bold new commission in response to how built environments shape how we live, move and connect.

We’re pleased to be sharing the first artists confirmed for AND Festival 2026. Landing in Barnsley in 25-27 September, this year’s festival explores infrastructures as a lived material and cultural condition, from histories of extraction and labour to food markets, independent cultural venues, post-industrial heritage sites, systems, and networks. The everyday structures we pass through and depend on, often without noticing.

The three commissions bring together British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker Dian Joy, whose work critically examines selfhood and identity in the digital era; Leeds-based artist and educator Jazmin Morris, who interrogates representation, inclusivity and power dynamics within cyberspace; and Berlin-based 4D spatial sound studio MONOM, whose immersive audio experiences are redefining how audiences inhabit sound.

Joining the programme is multidisciplinary artist and curator Marc Blazel, building on his experimental broadcasting platform Going Away.TV to create a platform for artist conversations, moving image works and screenings. Presenting a film work is Dutch digital art duo Metahaven known for their elusive aesthetics and groundbreaking interdisciplinary research.

After a weekend of transforming some of Barnsley’s most historic sites into spaces for bold, immersive art, a touring phase will carry the commissions onward to Doncaster, Wigan and Barrow spanning immersive sound, expanded film and interactive digital worlds, each made in direct response to the place.

More artists and full programme details will be announced in July 2026.

Dian Joy

Dian Joy is a British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in London. Working across video and installation, Joy’s practice explores the entanglement of biological and technological systems through a speculative, research-driven approach. Their work critically engages with the ever-evolving terrain of selfhood in the digital era, frequently investigating how the machinic and the embodied intersect within contemporary culture. Bridging theory and praxis, at the core of Joy’s inquiry is an exploration of desire as a subjectivity-shaping force in a world increasingly governed by algorithmically charged media. Through this lens, Joy examines the affective and material dimensions of otherness and power. Never indebted to a darkening horizon, their installations and moving image works cultivate spaces for collective reflection, asking how we indeed “make sense” amid the ideological forces that shape contemporary life.

MONOM

MONOM is an artist-run studio working at the intersection of spatial sound, music, art, and technology. Utilizing 4DSOUND technology, we craft spatial sound experiences across the entire spectrum, from ideation to exhibition—artistic direction, touring, curation, technology and system integration. We believe in sound as a powerful medium for change and transformation. With spatial sound at the center, we aim to create transformative experiences that are accessible and available to everyone.
