Masters & Servers

Abandon Normal Devices, alongside a network of partners across Europe, embarked on a two year project which included a variety of works by media artists, activists and creators, who traverse the frontiers of contemporary art, radical entertainment and amateur invention. It was a European adventure looking at a new generation of digital intervention.

Masters & Servers embarked on a multi-faceted exploration of the different ways in which human invention, both individual and social, can turn digital technologies into a powerful ally.

Featured projects across the two year programme included:

Internet Landscapes; a series of web-based artworks by Evan Roth that allowed audiences to experience the internet’s physical, digital and cultural landscape.
Dark Content; an online project by Eva and Franco Mattes exploring online ‘content moderators’.
The Lost Hour; featuring Addie Wagenknecht, John Law, Trevor Paglen.
Disruption Network Lab; an ongoing platform of events with artists, hackers, networkers, whistleblowers and critical thinkers.
FDIC Insured; an archive of the logos of the failed US banks from the financial crisis by Michael Mandiberg.
Art of Bots; a weekend of workshops, labs and bot showcases.
Spreadkom; a project by BridA exploring an alternative communication system created especially for the forest.
Origami Space Race; an alternative space race programme by Saso Sedlacek.
The Pirate Cinema; an online, ongoing project looking at real-time peer-to-peer file sharing by Nicolas Maigret.
6pm Your Local Time; a coordinated one off event using hashtags to reach global audiences.

Between 2014-2016, Masters & Servers explored networked culture in the post-digital age, a joint project by Aksioma (SI), Drugo more (HR), AND (UK), Link Art Center (IT) and d-i-n-a / The Influencers (ES).
